This privacy statement discloses the privacy practices for the City of Memphis e-payment system. We are committed to safeguarding your personal information and protecting your privacy.
City of Memphis e-payment uses personal information to complete the payment of your bills. We'll always specify the purposes for which we collect information, and only collect information with your consent.
During any e-payment session you can change the information we collect about you at any time, and as often as necessary.
Because we must gather some personal information about you in order to offer you the highest quality personal service, we believe you should be fully aware of the information we collect about you, how we use it, and how you can correct or change it. |

Collecting of Information |
City of Memphis e-payment collects required information that is necessary to fully service your use of the City of Memphis e-payment application By providing such information, you can gain access to the City of Memphis e-payment. |

Required Information |
Required information is data the City of Memphis e-payment needs in order to allow you to pay your traffic fines and property taxes. This information is collected during the payment process.
Bank information is also captured through the payment process for those electing to pay by electronic check. |

User Solicited Contact |
User comments and inquiries are collected and stored for each user who submits them. This represents one of the many ways users can contact us regarding any inquiries they have regarding the City of Memphis e-payment service. This information is kept for 12 months so we can review it to improve the quality of service we provide our users. After this time, the data is purged from our database. |

Tracking Information |
City of Memphis e-payment's web server logs information in aggregate to get a better picture of where our visitors come from and to plan for future enhancements. The following information is logged and tracked:
- The URL and date and the time of the page requested
- The version of the web browser being used and the version and type of the visitor's operating system
- The visitor's IP address
City of Memphis e-payment tracks traffic patterns throughout all pages of our site. The information is stored for a period of 12 months in the event such data is necessary in the course of a fraud investigation.
City of Memphis e-payment "anonymizes" its server log files on a regular basis, summarizing information such as browser type and referrer, and the number of visits from other domains. Server information is consolidated, with links to data about individual users destroyed.

City of Memphis e-payment has made every effort to ensure the privacy and integrity of user information. |

Transmission of User Data |
For your protection, you are automatically logged out of the City of Memphis e-payment Bill Center if your browser session has been inactive for an extended period of time. In these cases you are asked to sign on again to City of Memphis e-payment.
Security is also provided through your web browser, which supports a 128-bit version of encryption with the SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) security protocol. When you visit the City of Memphis e-payment web site, your personal information is encrypted when transmitted across the Internet. If your browser does not support SSL encryption, you will not be able to access your account or make payments. You will have to download a browser that does support SSL – we recommend Microsoft Internet Explorer. |

A note about secure site IDs and SSL security |
When you enter a secure web site, browsers typically display a dialog box to notify you that you are entering a secure web site, and display a security icon (for example, Internet Explorer displays a lock in the locked position) on the status bar. When you leave a secure web site, browsers typically display a dialog box to notify you that you are no longer on a secure web site and the security icon changes (Internet Explorer displays the lock icon in an unlocked position). |

Internal Security Policies and Procedures |
City of Memphis e-payment has instituted internal safeguards to reduce the likelihood of accidental disclosures and unintended access of user information (although it is impossible to eliminate this possibility completely).
All employees, contractors and other companies engaged by City of Memphis e-payment are contractually required, through signed, internal privacy policies or non-disclosure agreements, to keep user information confidential and not to use it in any way other than what is necessary to perform their work for City of Memphis e-payment. Violations of these policies can result in termination in the case of employees, the severing of contractual obligations in the case of contractors and other companies, and in civil and criminal penalties if warranted and applicable by law.
If you provide personal information during an interaction with our customer service representatives (for example, an email address or telephone number), we use it only for the purpose of customer service. |

Sharing of Information> |
In an effort to expand our user base, City of Memphis e-payment may disclose summary information, obtained by combining information from many users, but with the name and other individual identifiers removed. Typically, aggregate reports disclose usage, demographic and traffic patterns to business partners.
We do not share information about individual users for marketing purposes with any third party, unless requested expressly by the user or as described in the Use of Information section.
City of Memphis e-payment opposes the emailing of any junk mail, and does not sell user information to email lists or telemarketers. If any of our related sites engage in such practices, for any reason, City of Memphis e-payment will immediately investigate, and if appropriate, discontinue services with such parties. If you receive junk email that mentions City of Memphis e-payment services, please send details to us at help.desk@CityofMemphis.org and we will investigate promptly. |

Notification of Changes |
If City of Memphis e-payment changes this privacy policy, updates will be posted to the privacy statement, the homepage, and other places we deem appropriate. Information will be used in accordance with the privacy policy under which the information was collected.
If users' personally identifiable information will be used in a manner different from that stated at the time of collection, we will notify users via email. Users will have a choice as to whether or not we use their information in this different manner. If users have opted out of all communication with the site, or deleted/deactivated their account, they will not be contacted, nor will their personal information be used in this new manner. In addition, if any material changes are made to the privacy practices that do not affect user information already stored in our database, we will post a prominent notice on our Web site notifying users of the change. In some cases when a notice is posted, we will also email users who have opted to receive communications from City of Memphis e-payment. |
